Created as a study in emergence, Origin reflects Isabella Empey’s exploration of what exists before form fully reveals itself. Composed with flowing alcohol ink and mineral-rich mica, the surface carries both depth and luminosity, as if lit from within. Crimson, ember, and deep umber tones gather across the canvas, building an atmosphere that feels elemental rather than constructed.

The title gestures toward beginning, but not in a simplistic sense. In this work, origin is not a single point in time. It is a process. Layers of translucent ink move and settle organically, allowing texture and fracture to form naturally. The mica catches and refracts light, creating subtle glints beneath darker passages, suggesting energy beneath density. What appears shadowed is not empty, but charged.

The composition feels almost geological, as though pressure and heat have shaped it over time. Darkened edges frame a central field of intensified color, where saturation becomes both wound and ignition.
